Knytro (born Matthew Guthrie) is a British rapper from South London of Jamaican heritage. He adopted the stage name Knytro—an acronym for "Knowledge Navigated by Yesterday's Truth, Respect, and Originality"—by the age of 13, and is known for a style rooted in classic hip hop with electro-soul influences.
In 2013 Knytro signed to MTA Records, the label founded by production duo Chase & Status. His debut mixtape, Project Haarpoon, was released that year and was named "Best Mixtape of 2013" by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe. The project was supported by videos for the tracks "Still Standing" and "Status Quo", with "Still Standing" serving as its lead single and reflecting a darker, more ominous side of his persona. He went on to tour with Chase & Status and Pusha-T, and provided support to Snoop Dogg and Public Enemy, while also collaborating with Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon on the track "Gangsta Boogie".
Knytro released his second project, The Griffin EP, in 2014. He subsequently stepped back from music to travel and pursue creative development in Jamaica, the United States, and Africa. He returned to releasing music in 2023 with a series of new visual and musical output reflecting his broadened influences.
