Jamie Scott, born James Christopher Needle on 12 February 1984, is an English singer, songwriter and producer. Alongside a solo recording career, he has become one of the most prolific songwriters and producers in British pop and R&B, credited with over 100 million albums and 50 million singles sold, 17 UK number ones and 11 US number ones as a writer and producer.
Scott signed to Sony Music in 2002 and worked with Jamiroquai keyboardist Toby Smith on a debut album, Soul Searching, touring with acts including Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Kelly Clarkson and Gabrielle. His singles "Just" (2004) and "Searching" (2005) reached the UK top 40, but Soul Searching was shelved following the Sony/BMG merger. He gained wider recognition in 2006 when his song "Made" featured in the film Step Up, in which he also appeared as the character Colin. In 2007 he signed to Polydor Records as Jamie Scott & The Town, releasing the album Park Bench Theories. From 2008 he partnered with producer TommyD as Graffiti6, whose single "Stare into the Sun" appeared in television advertising and the video game FIFA 12; the duo signed to Capitol Records and released Colours (2012) and The Bridge (2014), and Scott later toured with One Direction on their Where We Are Tour. He returned to solo work with My Hurricane (2015) and How Still the River (2020), released through his own label, Catherine Records.
As a songwriter, Scott is closely associated with One Direction, having co-written singles including "Story of My Life", "Drag Me Down", "Night Changes", "You & I", "Midnight Memories", "Home" and "More Than This", and later continued writing with band members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson on tracks such as "This Town", "Too Much to Ask" and "Put a Little Love on Me". He has also written or produced number-one songs including "Cold Water" by Major Lazer and Justin Bieber, "These Days" by Rudimental, "Skin" by Rag'n'Bone Man and "Heartbeat" by Enrique Iglesias, and has collaborated with artists such as Calvin Harris, Jess Glynne, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Little Mix, Christina Perri and Ed Sheeran. He served as executive producer on Rag'n'Bone Man's debut album Human, which became the fastest-selling debut by a male artist in a decade, and has also released music under the pseudonym J.S. Baylin. In 2019 he received an Ivor Novello Award for "These Days", and in 2022 was nominated for Song of the Year at the Brit Awards for his production work on Tom Grennan's "Little Bit of Love".
In 2015 Scott founded the publishing and management company Catherine Songs, whose roster has included Mike Needle, Dan Bryer, René Miller, Tom Williams, Michael Hemmings and River Matthews. He is also a director of the production and record company BSW Music, whose signings include Bow Anderson and Low Lying Sun.
