Damani Nkosi is an American rapper from Inglewood, California, who emerged from Los Angeles' hip-hop underground. He recorded his first track in 1999 and gained early recognition as a featured artist on Kurupt's 2001 album Space Boogie: Smoke Odyssey. In 2002 he released "Move," featuring Pusha T and Malice of Clipse, which received airplay on Los Angeles hip-hop mixshows, and issued his debut mixtape, The Street Album, the same year.

Nkosi released the mixtape Congratulations Player in 2006, which included the single "Gotta Stay Paid" and received radio play on The Beat and Power 106. He subsequently signed with Sony Urban Music's My Block Entertainment imprint. In 2007 he appeared on the television series Monk, and that year he formed the group Dubb Union (originally known as Westurn Union) alongside Bad Lucc and producer Soopafly. The Los Angeles-based trio was signed by Snoop Dogg to Doggy Style Records, toured with Snoop Dogg, and released the album Snoop Dogg Presents: Dubb Union in 2008.

In 2009, Nkosi partnered with Adidas on the brand's EQT off-the-court campaign, which included a limited-edition shoe bearing part of his logo and the phrase "Congratulations Player," and he recorded the song "My Adidas" for the campaign. He released the single and video "Here Comes Damani," featuring Snoop Dogg, in 2010, followed by his album On Vacation From Vacation the same year, with contributions from Snoop Dogg, Crooked I, Mitchy Slick, Mr. Short Khop, and Daz Dillinger. In 2012 he left his record labels and took a hiatus to travel internationally, including a trip to China for a shoe design deal that influenced his later work.

Nkosi returned with the single "Now That's Love," featuring Robert Glasper and Musiq Soulchild and produced by Warryn Campbell, in 2014; it served as the lead single from his album Thoughtful King, which also featured PJ Morton and BJ the Chicago Kid. In 2015 he released the single "Stay Black," featuring Preston Harris, Ill Camille, and Aneesa Strings. He appeared in the 2016 documentary Manchild: The Schea Cotton Story. Over his career, Nkosi has collaborated with artists including Dr. Dre, Swizz Beatz, Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, and Malice of Clipse.
