Hangman’s Chair is a French heavy music group formed in 2005 in Crosne, Essonne. They are recognized for their distinct "cold doom" sound. This style blends heavy doom metal riffs with melancholic post-punk, shoegaze, and cold wave atmospherics. Their poetic, gloomy lyrics frequently focus on urban distress, loneliness, drug addiction, and depression.

The band is currently on an indefinite hiatus. They paused activities in November 2025 due to personal and logistical issues. This decision led to the cancellation of scheduled concerts and the temporary closure of their official webstore. The band stated that the store will reopen "as soon as the band becomes active again".
In December 2025, Hangman's Chair were included on Rock Sound France's "Top 20 French rock bands" list, which encompassed musical groups from the 1970s–1980s era to the present day.
