Reolô is a quartet consisting of Anders Røine, Hans Kjorstad, Rasmus Kjorstad, and Hans Hulbækmo – all lively multi-instrumentalists rooted in Norwegian folk music and the somewhat vague term “open class.” They released the album Andre sida to critical acclaim in late autumn 2019 on ta:lik, and in March 2025 they followed up with the long-awaited Dystopi Delete, which received outstanding reviews. The album was recorded at Juke Joint Studio in Notodden and mixed by Mattias Glavå (Dungen, Elephant9, Håkan Hellstrøm).
Musically, the band moves from Norwegian fiddle tunes, through rocking grooves inspired by both West Africa and America, to pure bursts of energy. Or as Arvid Skancke-Knutsen wrote in Klassekampen: “as if Velvet Underground had secretly been rehearsing for years in a Norwegian barn.” After three rock-solid singles praised by both listeners and critics, the full album finally arrived on March 21.
A cohesive work in all its variety, gravity, and playfulness, with lyrics about prepping, the flock of sheep charging toward the cliff, and a hard, the band aims to capture the essence of our times – while their focus on groove, tight interplay, and old-fashioned tonality lends the music a slightly timeless quality. Reolô has managed to become something of a “supergroup” in both Norwegian folk music and rock.
