Beth McBride is the solo project of vocalist and songwriter Bethany Forseth-Reichberg, known from bands such as Mall Girl and tigerstate. Born in the U.S. and raised in Norway, she studied on the jazz programme where she was inspired by Radka Toneff, Ella Fitzgerald, and Randy Crawford. But straight-ahead jazz was never where she ended up. With Mall Girl – the trio featuring guitarist Iver Armand Tandsether and drummer Veslemøy Narvesen – she has helped create some of the most exciting indie pop to come out of Norway in recent years. The band grew out of a series of jam sessions and has released two albums on Jansen Records: their debut Superstar (2022) and the follow-up Pure Love (2024). The debut drew positive coverage from TIME and The Guardian, and with Pure Love they took things further with a more refined blend of dream-pop, midwest emo, and math rock. Mall Girl have played major Scandinavian festivals including Øya, Roskilde, and by:Larm, and made their SXSW debut in Austin in 2025.
In parallel, Bethany has been part of tigerstate, the Oslo-based collective founded during lockdown in spring 2020 – an eclectic group of musician friends with roots in projects like Fieh, Mall Girl, and more. She also runs the duo Riversun with saxophonist Zakarias Meyer Øverli, blending impulses from jazz, pop, and hip-hop.
Now it’s Beth McBride’s turn. With a rattly guitar, a few more life experiences, and a dream of writing her own music, she has completed her debut album, set for release on Warner/ADA in 2026. Her music is about reconnecting with her roots, trusting her intuition, and dreaming big. With the jazz sensibility from her studies, the energy of Mall Girl, and the collective spirit of tigerstate in her luggage, Beth McBride promises something personal, genuine, and unpredictable.
