Amadou Bagayoko was born in 1954 in Bamako, Mariam Doumbia was born in 1958 in the same city. Both are blind: Amadou lost his sight at the age of sixteen, and Mariam at the age of three. They met in Bamako in an association which takes care of young blind people, then they married in 1980
