Robert Natus is an electronic musician from Hamburg, Germany, recognized as a pioneering creator of the hardtechno genre. Natus began producing music at the turn of the millennium, establishing himself within the German electronic music scene through self-produced compositions and a distinctive technical approach. As a founding member of the genre-defining movement within German techno circles, Natus has maintained creative independence throughout his career, composing all of his own material without reliance on mainstream marketing or label support.
Natus founded Bitshift as his primary platform for releasing original hardtechno productions, followed by the label Systemcalls, which also specializes in hardtechno material. In 2004, he released Hardcore Salsa in collaboration with Arkus P., a key early work that demonstrated his innovative approach to the genre. His early catalog includes albums such as Hardtechno, Pt. 1 (Early Worx) and Hardtechno, Pt. 2 (Early Worx), both released through Bitshift in 2022 as retrospectives of his formative work. His 2022 album Signals, also on Bitshift, features tracks including New World, Boom Pipe, Sunset, and Rough, showcasing his continued development as a techno producer. Natus later established Favourite Tools, a label positioned within the grooving techno aesthetic, broadening his production palette while maintaining his signature minimalist and technically sophisticated approach.
