As I Am is the production alias of Jon O'Leary, a London-based DJ and producer specializing in bass-driven house music. Growing up in South East London, he began his musical education at a young age with guidance from his bass player father, listening to 80s disco and mixing cassettes at his grandfather's house. In 2002, along with friends, he co-founded underground radio station Select UK Radio, which has become one of the longest-running underground stations with one million unique users, focusing on house music. He founded various club nights since 1998 at venues including seOne, Koko, Cable, Crucifix Lane, and Studio 338 (formerly Meantime), as well as boat parties on the River Thames.
As I Am's debut release on Defected Records, "Saving Grace" featuring Nicola Tate, was released on December 1, 2014, and received support from Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Kenny Dope, MK, and Dennis Ferrer. The track made Best Track on DMC Daytime Buzz Chart at Amsterdam Dance Event 2014 and spent nearly four months in the Beatport charts. His releases have appeared on labels including Azuli, Simma Black, Great Stuff, Get Twisted Records, Whore House, Hed Kandi, Bar Grooves, Ministry Of Sound, Arch44, and Columbia/Sony.
