Aperio (real name Joe Nicholls) is a liquid drum and bass producer from Leeds, England, who entered the music scene in 2017. Drawing inspiration from soul, funk, pop, and rock, Aperio specialises in melodic liquid drum and bass characterised by atmospheric textures and soulful production. His stage name derives from the Latin word meaning "to appear," reflecting his emergence as a distinctive voice within the contemporary liquid drum and bass landscape. Based in Yorkshire, Aperio has established himself through releases across respected independent labels within the genre.
Aperio has released music on RAM Records, Program, Soulvent, Galacy, Soul Trader, SGN:LTD, High Tea Music, and Liquicity Records. Notable early releases include collaborations on Program and appearances on the RAM Drum & Bass Annual 2020 compilation. His 2019 singles "Days & Nights" featuring Maddy and "Aurora" featuring Koherent on SGN:LTD established his signature sound with lush pads and melodic sensibility. Aperio has also contributed remixes, including reworkings of tracks by Telomic and Sky. Recent collaborations include features with vocalist Elisa MJ on High Tea Music releases and tracks such as "Sigo" and "Cyclical Haze," alongside work with artists like Becca Jane Grey and Pillerin on the 2023 EP "Let Tea Roll."
