Antony Szmierek is a British spoken word and indie hip-hop artist from Hyde, Greater Manchester, born circa 1992. His music fuses poetic, introspective lyricism with nostalgia-inducing production drawing from 2000s indie, 1990s rave, and UK garage sounds. After beginning as a member of the Rhythm Method and performing at open mikes, Szmierek self-produced beats to accompany his spoken word material, eventually expanding into a full band arrangement for live performances. Named an Artist of the Year by BBC Radio 6 Music in 2023, his breakthrough single The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Fallacy spent four weeks on the BBC 6 Music B-list and was featured on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists programme.
Szmierek's debut album Giving Up for Beginners (2021) drew comparisons to The Streets' Mike Skinner and established his narrative-driven approach to hip-hop. His 2023 debut EP Poems to Dance To showcased his evolution toward dance-oriented production, while his full-length debut Service Station at the End of the Universe (February 2025) received critical acclaim with four-star reviews from NME and Record Collector. The album features collaborations with artists including Yemi Bolatiwa on Working Classic and Because of Art on Circle of Light. Szmierek has performed at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, Bearded Theory, Hay Festival, The Great Escape, and Truck Festival. His accompanying book Roadmap (2025), described as an exploded view of the album's tracks, launched at Hay Festival 2025.
