André Cibelli Abujamra (born May 15, 1965) is a Brazilian composer, musician, singer, guitarist, actor, and comedian of Lebanese and Italian origin. Born in São Paulo, he operates across multiple artistic disciplines spanning film composition, theatrical work, and innovative musical projects. His career encompasses experimental rock, world music fusion, and Brazilian pop influenced by diverse global traditions. The son of actor Antônio Abujamra, André established himself as a multifaceted creative force challenging conventional Brazilian artistic boundaries.
Since entering Brazilian cinema in 1988, Abujamra has composed soundtracks for approximately 75 films, including acclaimed works such as Carandiru (2003), Bicho de Sete Cabeças (2000), and Durval Discos (2002). As singer and guitarist for the band Karnak, he released three albums including Karnak (1995), Universo Umbigo (1997), and Estamos Adorando Tóquio (2000). Alongside Maurício Pereira, he formed the experimental rock duo Os Mulheres Negras. His solo discography includes O Infinito de Pé (2004), Mafaro (2010), O Homem Bruxa (2015), and the critically acclaimed Omindá (2018)—a 13-track album featuring over 65 artists from 13 countries including the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and voices from Mali, France, Portugal, Russia, Japan, India, and Argentina. The Omindá album received recognition as the 17th best Brazilian album of 2018 by Rolling Stone Brasil and ranked among the 25 best Brazilian albums of the year by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics. His 2020 album Emidoinã received a Latin Grammy nomination in 2021 for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album.
