Laxcity, real name Joshua Mbewe, is a Sheffield, UK-based electronic music producer and artist born in Ndola, Zambia. Moving to the United Kingdom at age nine, Mbewe developed a signature sound characterized by intricate soundscapes, textured ambience, and emotionally resonant electronica. His music style has been described as exquisite downtempo, gaining attention through features on Majestic Casual's channel, Apple Music and Spotify playlists, and Ekali's Awakening mixes. Known for his introverted persona, laxcity creates immersive electronic music that blends orchestral influences with future bass elements.
In 2018, Mbewe traveled to Montreal for his first live performance, opening for Robotaki and Said the Sky. His debut album Catharsis was released in December 2018 via Majestic Casual Records, featuring collaborations with artists including emawk and Lani Rose. Following this success, his Purity EP was released through ALT:Vision Records. Laxcity gained wider recognition when one of his samples was featured on Justin Bieber's track "Running Over". His discography has continued to expand with releases including the albums Introspection, Sessions, and Flourish, establishing him as a notable voice in contemporary electronic and future bass music.
