Irah is a British vocalist, rapper, and songwriter from Brixton, South London, who has become synonymous with bringing dancehall culture to the forefront of drum and bass. Growing up in Brixton's vibrant sound system culture, he was influenced by local sounds like Silver Hawk Sound and foundational artists including Pulp Cut, Green Maiden, and General Levy. His musical foundation stems from his father's extensive record collection and reggae music, which he considers his core genre. After getting into trouble as a teenager, Irah was sent to Jamaica at age 15 where he spent three and a half formative years living with his pastor grandfather, working construction and grounding himself before returning to the UK.
Irah's breakthrough came through an unconventional path via his comedy work on The REFIX Show, a Facebook page where he created voice-overs for TV shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons using Jamaican dialect. When Chase & Status began opening their sets with his REFIX intro music, they reached out to collaborate, leading to his vocal feature on "Program" from their Return II Jungle album. This was followed by his career-defining performance on the platinum-selling chart-topper "Baddadan" by Chase & Status and Bou, featuring Flowdan, Trigga, and Takura. His recent single "Gunfinger" with Chase & Status continues his mission to inject authentic dancehall culture into drum and bass, with plans to build "the ultimate bridge between the UK and Jamaica." Beyond music, Irah works as a filmmaker and stuntman, creating kung fu comedy projects with artists like Big Narstie.
