Roughton "Rou" Reynolds (born 16 January 1986 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and author best known as the lead vocalist, electronics specialist, and primary lyricist of British post-hardcore band Enter Shikari. Reynolds initially formed the band Hybryd in 1999 with childhood friends Chris Batten and Rob Rolfe, before evolving into Enter Shikari in 2003 when guitarist Rory Clewlow joined. Known for pioneering the integration of electronic music with post-hardcore and metalcore, Reynolds combines aggressive vocals with synthesizer work, using equipment including Korg Radias, Korg EMX-1, and Novation controllers to create the band's distinctive sound.
Beyond his musical career with Enter Shikari, Reynolds has established himself as an accomplished author, publishing "Dear Future Historians" in 2017 and "The Spark" in 2018, both exploring his lyrical work and political commentary. His expanded 2019 edition "Dear Future Historians: 2006-2019" compiles lyrics and exegesis covering Enter Shikari's five albums and charts the band's politically charged creative evolution. The band's debut album "Take to the Skies" achieved Gold certification, establishing Enter Shikari as one of Britain's most influential rock acts. Reynolds' lyricism consistently tackles political, social and scientific issues, while his innovative approach to blending electronic music with heavy rock has influenced countless bands in the post-hardcore and metalcore scenes.
