RoRo is a Barbadian singer-songwriter whose music blends Caribbean influences with contemporary R&B and pop sensibilities. Born and raised in Barbados, she draws heavily from her Bajan heritage, incorporating calypso and soca elements into her "laid back R&B" sound. Her musical influences are quite literally worn on her sleeves, with tattoos of legendary artists Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, and Etta James adorning her arms. Her music has been characterized as "distinctive Caribbean ingrained pop," establishing her as a unique voice bridging traditional Caribbean sounds with modern production.
RoRo gained significant recognition with her 2020 release "Mood Forever," which earned her the "New Name" slot on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show. The "Mood Forever" EP, released via Mahogany Recordings in 2020, featured four tracks that she described as "a love letter to the mood and vibe of the reggae songs I grew up with, with a RoRo spin on it." Her breakthrough came in 2023 with the collaborative single "Good Love" alongside Hannah Laing, which she co-wrote and performed. The track became a major success, spending 26 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 7, and achieving BPI platinum certification. RoRo has also featured prominently on electronic music releases, including "Wale" with Jaded in 2021 on the Higher Ground label, and "Takin' Off" with DJ Shub and Too Many Zooz. She has become a regular feature on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6, establishing her as a rising force in contemporary Caribbean-influenced music.
