Ms Banks, born Thyra Kigho Deshaun Oji, is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter from Camberwell, southeast London, with a Nigerian father and Ugandan mother. Raised near Walworth Road in Elephant and Castle, she grew up in a musical household and started writing songs at age 11. Inspired by Nicki Minaj, her biggest influence, alongside Ms Dynamite, Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and Monie Love, she crafted a style blending sharp rap skills with compelling lyrics. She gained attention with her 2014 debut mixtape Once Upon a Grind, followed by The Coldest Winter Ever (2018), The Coldest Winter Ever Part II (2019), and Bank Statement (2022). Her 2016 EP New Chapter EP further solidified her presence in the UK urban scene. Operating under her own label, Ms Banks shines through her versatility and energy, collaborating with artists like Aya Nakamura (Mon Lossa), Russ Millions (Gun Lean Remix), Darkoo (Gangsta Remix), Geko (Woi Oi), and Dolapo (Interest).
