Bianca Miquela Landrau, known as BIA, born August 16, 1991, in Medford, Massachusetts, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and model. Of Puerto Rican and Italian descent, she grew up in Boston, immersed in the battle rap scene, which sparked her early passion for music. Influenced by Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, M.I.A., Ivy Queen, Selena, Aaliyah, and Rihanna (whom she considers a muse), BIA developed a style blending sharp flows, catchy melodies, and a striking visual presence.
She started writing rhymes as a teen but only showcased her talent at 18. After briefly attending college, she dropped out, worked as a bartender to fund studio sessions, and dove into music full-time. Her career took off in 2014 when Pharrell Williams discovered her, signing her to his I Am Other label in partnership with RCA Records after she wrote a track in under 20 minutes during an audition. Originally meant for T.I., it became her debut single featuring him.
BIA gained recognition through the reality show Sisterhood of Hip Hop on Oxygen. In 2016, she collaborated with J Balvin on "Safari", and in 2018, she released her debut EP, Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado. Her 2019 single "Best on Earth" with Russ marked a breakthrough, followed by her 2020 EP, For Certain, under Epic Records, showcasing her versatility. Her hit "Whole Lotta Money", remixed with Nicki Minaj, reached the Billboard Hot 100 top 20. In 2020, she won Artist of the Year and Hip-Hop Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards.
With bold style and impactful videos like "Same Hands", addressing romantic distrust and social revenge, BIA has emerged as a rising star in female rap, defined by raw energy and deep ties to her cultural roots.
