Artist Biography Available in: O.R.O. (short for Onde Radio Ovest) is an Italian pop group formed in Florence in 1993. The band was created by three highly sought-after session musicians — Alfredo Golino (drums), Cesare Chiodo (bass), and Mario Manzani (guitar) — who had previously worked with Marco Masini and were key figures in the so-called "Florentine School" of music. They were later joined by Mauro Mengali and Valerio Zelli on vocals and keyboards.
O.R.O. gained early attention with the single “L’amore è” and achieved major success in 1995 with “Vivo per…”, which was later adapted by Andrea Bocelli and Giorgia under the title “Vivo per lei”. After winning Sanremo Giovani in 1995, the band went on to participate in the Sanremo Music Festival in 1996 and 1997, gaining further recognition with the song “Padre nostro”, co-written with Enrico Ruggeri.
Active until 2019 with live performances and new collaborations, O.R.O. remains one of the most iconic Italian pop bands of the 1990s.
