Afro‑dite is a Swedish pop and disco group formed in 2002, consisting of Blossom Tainton, Kayo Shekoni and Gladys del Pilar. All three members were already established performers in Sweden before joining forces, each with backgrounds in pop, soul, dance music, musical theatre and television. The group became widely known after representing Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song “Never Let It Go”, finishing 8th in the final and achieving major chart success across Scandinavia.
Following their breakthrough, Afro‑dite released their debut album Afro‑dite and continued to perform at festivals, TV shows and major events throughout the 2000s. Their music blends disco, pop and dance with strong vocal harmonies and energetic stage presence, reflecting the members’ long experience as solo artists and performers.
The group returned to Melodifestivalen in 2012 with the song “The Boy Can Dance”, reaching the semi‑finals and reintroducing their signature disco‑pop sound to a new audience. Outside Afro‑dite, all three members have maintained active careers: Blossom Tainton as a singer, fitness personality and TV host; Kayo Shekoni as a solo artist, actress and musical performer; and Gladys del Pilar as a vocalist, gospel singer and musical theatre performer.
Afro‑dite continues to perform at concerts, pride festivals, corporate events and televised galas, remaining a popular act within Swedish pop and disco. Their legacy is defined by strong vocals, vibrant performances and their role as one of Sweden’s most recognizable modern disco groups.
