Christian Roger Beharie (born 1994 in Sandnes), known simply as Beharie, is one of the most distinctive voices in Norwegian soul and R&B. With a Jamaican father and Norwegian mother, he found Caribbean rhythms flowing from the family stereo and into his blood from an early age, later fusing that foundation with the pop and soul artists who shaped him growing up.
He released his debut EP, Beharie, in 2019, followed by Beharie // Beharie in 2021 — a project that won him the Spellemann Award and drew glowing reviews from major Norwegian outlets, with the collective press declaring him the new star of indie soul/R&B. GAFFA went as far as comparing his voice and melodic sensibility to Frank Ocean, calling the resemblance almost uncanny.
His debut album, Are You There, Boy?, followed on 20 October 2023 — a soulful, personal journey woven through twelve tracks exploring identity, queer love, self-assurance, vulnerability, and loneliness, led by singles like "Deadly," "Heaven," and "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?"
He has since built his name as one of Norway's most compelling live acts, supporting Leon Bridges at Sentrum Scene and performing at the official opening of Norway's National Museum.
His second album, When The Silence Gets Too Loud, swings between the grand and the intimate — goosebump-raising choral arrangements and dramatic instrumentation set against warm, acoustic moments carried by Beharie's rich voice. Where the debut felt playful, searching, and perhaps a little naive, this record is a modern coming-of-age album from a musician who is neither young nor fully grown — a reflective work that pulls the listener in close, echoing the intimacy of his live shows. Aftenposten has called him one of the best artists in Norway today, noting that at his best, his music makes the listener disappear as if diving underwater into something that never seems to end.
