Ballinciaga is a Norwegian trio consisting of Mikkel Brunvatne Henriksen, Thomas Alexander Strandskogen, and Victor Karlsen Klæbo — three men in pink balaclavas who in the space of a few years went from making russ music in their bedrooms to becoming among Norway’s most streamed artists. The name is a combination of the luxury brand Balenciaga and the American slang expression “ballin’.” They started in 2018 as one of many producers in the wake of TiX’s russ music success, but from 2020 they began to break free from the genre by dropping russ group references in titles and lyrics. The breakthrough came in 2021 with “Loud Luxury 2022” featuring rapper Kevin Lauren, and in 2022 everything exploded: “Dans på bordet” with David Mokel topped the Norwegian charts and became the most streamed song in the Nordics that year. “Fakk min X” with Kamelen gave them another number one. They had eight songs on the Spotify Top 50 simultaneously — a Norwegian record — and sold out Oslo Spektrum. The debut album Postkort Alicante (2023) went straight to the top of the album chart, and in 2024 “Sigg” gave them a third number-one single. As of 2025, nine of their singles have reached the top three on the Norwegian singles chart.
Musically, Ballinciaga is party music in the most direct sense of the word: electronic dance pop with big hooks, heavy basslines, and vocals split between what early on became known as “Light Voice” and “Dark Voice.” The Store norske leksikon (Great Norwegian Encyclopedia) describes them as one of the most important trendsetters in party music in the period after TiX, and they were central to the transition from russ music to mainstream Norwegian pop. The lyrics deal with partying, drugs, women, and delusions of grandeur — more unfiltered and less humorous than the genre has traditionally been, with references to substances other than alcohol. This has sparked debate: they participated in NRK’s “Debatten” discussing graduation celebrations and russ music in 2022, and their alcohol brand Kald Hard Seltzer was criticized for violating Norway’s alcohol advertising ban — the Norwegian Directorate of Health concluded in 2025 that they had committed a number of serious violations of the Alcohol Act. On Postkort Alicante they attempted a softer, more personal direction, but the reception was mixed.
Live, Ballinciaga is pure energy. The concerts are built to create collective euphoria — heavy drops, pink smoke, and an audience that sings along to every word. During Landstreffet 2022 things got so chaotic that they had to be moved to the main stage mid-concert. They have played with Tiësto, headlined Norwegian festivals from Palmesus to Neon, and have a string of concerts planned throughout 2026. Behind the balaclavas are three guys who took a side project meant to make money and turned it into one of the most dominant pop projects in Norway this decade.
