Nilüfer Yanya (born May 11, 1995, in London) is a British singer and songwriter known for her genre‑blending music that fuses indie rock, jazz, R&B, and atmospheric pop. She began releasing music in 2016 and gradually gained attention with the EPs Small Crimes and Plant Feed, before her debut album Miss Universe (2019) established her as a distinctive voice in British music.
Her second album, Painless (2022), featured introspective lyrics and stripped‑back, atmospheric arrangements. The album was praised as “sharp, ethereal, and beautiful in its rawness,” solidifying her position as one of her generation’s most exciting artists. In September 2024, she followed up with My Method Actor, her third album and first release on Ninja Tune. Produced alongside Wilma Archer, it includes tracks like “Binding,” “Call It Love,” and “Mutations,” and has been described as her most confident and emotionally powerful work to date.
In 2025, Yanya released the EP Dancing Shoes, a more atmospheric companion to her albums, featuring new tracks like “Cold Heart” and “Where to Look.” This release revealed a more spontaneous and expansive side to her sound, while maintaining the intimacy she is known for.
With a voice that is both smoky and intimate, Nilüfer Yanya creates music that thrives on contrasts—gentle yet restless, quiet yet often building toward emotional climaxes. She combines elastic guitar work with poetic, imagery‑rich lyrics exploring disconnection, change, and inner tension. From her early DIY recordings to the largest stages, Yanya has shown clear artistic growth. With Dancing Shoes, she continues to prove that modern pop music can be vulnerable, distinctive, and full of craft in 2025.
