Flor del Fango is a French latino and psychedelic rock band from Paris. It was formed in 1997 with musicians from the Parisian alternative scene of the 1980s.
The group was formed in November 1997 during a party in support of the Indians of Chiapas, which took place at the Zenith in Paris. It includes members of La Mano Negra, Chihuahua and Parabellum; Daniel Jamet (guitar), Philippe Teboul (drums), Napo Romero (vocals, guitar), Sven Polhammer (guitar), Patrick Lemarchand (drums), Alejandro Marasi (bass), Marucha Castillo (vocals), Anna Carrils Obiols (vocals). The group is inspired by Latin American music (Victor Jara, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra, Chavela Vargas).
In 1998, they play at the Nuits Celtes. In 1999, the group played at the Francofolies de La Rochelle. They published a first studio album, the eponymous Flor del Fango, in 2000, as well as three singles Maria, Luchar y luchar and La Chacarara. This record is the occasion of a tour. The group performs various opening acts (Louise Attaque, Willy DeVille) and festivals. The group is also present on the compilation tribute to the Mano Negra Mano Negra Illegal by covering Sidi 'H' Bibi in 2001. The group ceases all activity since that moment.
In 2017, the group announced its return with a new album planned and released in 2018, Hekatombeando..., followed by an international tour that starts in Brittany at the Esperanz'A solidarity festival in Auray (56) in February 2018, festival whose objective is to help refugees. The current formation, after the galactic departure of Sven Pohlhammer, is joined by Matu and his keyboards.
