Artist Biography

Nila Cara was born on June 12, 1916 in Villefranche-sur-Mer, Alpes-Maritimes, France as Victorine Thérèse Mencaraglia. She was an actress, known for Más pobre que una laucha (1955).

Vocalist Nila Cara specialized in France repertory, building her Parisian debut in 1942 on the Boite l’Aiglon. Her choice was for dramatic music, which tied along with her dreams as an celebrity. Cara made an appearance in two films manufactured in France through the early ’40s, Paradis Perdu (aka Four Plane tickets to Like) (1940) and L’Homme de Londres (aka The London Guy) (1943). RCA Victor released a 10″ LP pairing four of her music with two by celebrity Suzy Delair first from the 1950s.

In 1950, she recorded the French song "Mais qu'est-ce que j'ai ?" which was written in 1947 by Henri Betti (music) and Édith Piaf (lyrics).
