André Jaubert, known as Andrex, born January 23, 1907 in Marseille and died July 10, 1989 in Paris, is a French actor and singer.

André Jaubert was born in Marseille, at 105 rue Saint-Pierre. It was at the Copello school that he met Fernandel, with whom he formed a friendship that would never fade. Later, Fernandel launched him into the cinema, helping him to get roles (all the directors with whom Andrex worked knew Fernandel).

With the help of Maurice Chevalier, he made his debut as a singer at the Alcazar in Marseille, before "going up" to Paris and performing at the Concert Mayol. He then turned to the theater and operetta. In 1932, he was hired by Henri Varna at the Casino de Paris, which opened the doors of the largest music halls in the capital: the ABC, Bobino, the Théâtre de l'Empire. In 1931, he appeared in Louis Mercanton's short film, Une idée de génie. In 1933, he played for the first time with his childhood friend Fernandel. In total, we find them in 29 films because Fernandel, who became famous quite quickly, often reserves for his friend Andrex a role at his convenience in the films he shoots. Thus, we find them in 1934 in Marcel Pagnol's masterpiece, Angèle, and in all other popular successes of the time: Ignace in 1937, Barnabé in 1938 or Les Cinq Sous de Lavarède in 1939. He also played in Manon (1949) under the direction of Henri-Georges Clouzot. It is still and always in the films of Fernandel that we find Andrex: we remember him in the role of Rascasse in Simplet (1942) while in Honoré de Marseille (1956) he plays Watermelon. He also participates in the film with Bourvil and Fernandel, La Cuisine au beurre (1963). Also in 1963, in Monsieur by Jean-Paul Le Chanois, he plays, alongside Jean Gabin, Antoine, a gangster more naive than clever.

Andrex continues in parallel with his acting career, a singing career with songs such as Comme de bien entendu, La Samba brésilienne or his greatest success Chez Bébert (le monte-en-l'air), which he remembers in the title of his memoirs: On ne danse plus la java chez Bébert. He participated in many galas in Lyon organized by his friend Jo Darlays (the famous announcer Octave-Joseph Gerbet-Darlays, known as "Jo", known as "Toto", whom he and Fernandel had met in the troupe of the comedian Niamord in Marseille), and he practiced his singing tricks. Darlays was also a former sailor from Toulon, who later knew Commandant L'Herminier.

Brigitte Fontaine, who knew him personally, pays tribute to him in her album kékéland by covering the title Y a des zazous, in a duet with -M-. As for his acting career, Fernandel thinks of him until the end. From then on, Andrex is part of the first film produced by Gafer, a production company founded, as its name suggests, by Gabin and Fernandel. In the early 1970s, he tried his hand at television series and appeared in Le Petit Théâtre by Jean Renoir (1970).

After the death in 1971 of his wife, the actress Ginette Baudin (1921-1971), and Fernandel, his great friend, who helped him to have small roles in the cinema, the appearances of Andrex in the media are becoming increasingly rare.

In 1973, he participated with other artists in the recording of hits of the French song of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, then released in albums of two discs under the label Festival (distribution Musidisc-Europe).

He appeared in the cinema in 1979 in Charles et Lucie by Nelly Kaplan, before returning one last time in 1983 in the film Cap Canaille by Juliet Berto and Jean-Henri Roger.

He died on July 10, 1989 in Paris, following a heart attack. He rests with his wife in the cemetery of Saint-Ouen.
