Silvain Vanot is a French singer-songwriter, born in 1963 in Rouen. He is the author of seven albums and also composes music for the cinema.
His first self-produced EP is realized in 1992. One of his demos is noticed by the singer Jean-Louis Murat, who recommends him to his record company. Silvain Vanot's first album, recorded in the Davout studio, was published in 1993 by Delabel and Virgin. Vanot performed as an opening act on Jean-Louis Murat's tour, and sang at the Inrockuptibles festival. His album sold 8,000 copies. Vanot works on her voice with the singing teacher Annette Charlot. His second album, Sur des arbres, was released in 1995. Marc Ribot and Dominique A took part in the recording. With the latter, he covered Marc Bolan's Seagull Woman, which he adapted into French. The record benefits from richer sounds, thanks in particular to the string instruments. Silvain Vanot tours as a headliner to promote it. The sales reach 10 000 copies. In 1996, he plays notably at the Printemps de Bourges and at the festival La Route du Rock.
The following year, he recorded his third album at the Quad Studios in Nashville with new musicians: (en attendant) Tout brille, released in 1999, which is composed of old songs performed live in acoustic versions.
His album Il fait soleil, released in 2002, was recorded at the Palais des congrès studio. The singer, who for the first time called upon an artistic producer, entrusted the task to Jacques Ehrhart. The record is arranged by Bernard Arcadio. It opens with a cover of Jean-Roger Caussimon.
After breaking his contract with his label, Vanot devotes himself to the composition of film music. He worked on Violence des échanges en milieu tempéré by Jean-Marc Moutout and on several films by Henri-François Imbert, including Le Temps des amoureuses. In 2009, he returned to singing with his 6th album, Bethesda, recorded in Wales. The singer is notably accompanied by bassist John Greaves, drummer Iain Templeton and clarinetist Renaud Gabriel Pion.
In June 2016, he released a seventh album Ithaca on the label 03H50, recorded alone, if we except contributions from John Greaves and Brad Scott.
