Antonio Lotti is a composer , organist and choirmaster Italian of baroque music , born around 1667 in Venice or Hanover , the deadJanuary 5, 1740 in Venice .
The first part of his life is spent in Hanover, where his father Matteo was choirmaster at the Electoral Court .
He also received musical education in Venice from Giovanni Legrenzi 1 ; He then performed functions there at Saint Mark's Basilica , first as a singer ( cantor- chorist), then as assistant to the second organist before becoming the titular, finally from 1704 as first organist. He later became ( 1736 ) Master of the Chapel of the Cappella Marciana , a position he held until his death.
He obtained leave in 1717 to go to Dresden to the Elector of Saxony , where several of his operas were performed.
He returned to Venice in 1719 and remained there until his death.
A sought-after teacher, he had among his pupils Domenico Alberti , Benedetto Marcello , Baldassare Galuppi and Jan Dismas Zelenka . He was married to a soprano singer, Santa Stella .
