Born in Tuscany from a family of musicians, Laura Gorna graduated with top marks at the Milan Conservatory, under the guidance of Gigino Maestri, and later completed her post graduate studies at the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona with Salvatore Accardo.
Winner of the 22nd Competition Vittorio Veneto, Laura Gorna made her early debut playing the Kachaturian Concerto with the Rai Orchestra at Milan’s famed Sala Verdi.
She has played at Italy’s and the world’s most prominent venues, such as Sala Verdi di Milano, Teatro Comunale – Bologna, Teatro San Carlo – Napoli, Accademia Chigiana – Siena, Teatro La Fenice – Venezia, Teatro Carlo Felice – Genova, Teatro La Pergola – Firenze, Teatro Olimpico – Vicenza, Auditorium Parco della Musica – Roma, Cité de la Musique – Paris, Lincoln Center – New York, Suntory Hall – Tokyo, Verbier Festival and Mentone.
She has performed recitals in South America and the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Südwestdeutsche Philarmonie in Germany. Her Italian appearances as a soloist include performances with a variety of orchestras, including Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, I Solisti Aquilani, Orchestra da Camera Italiana.
Her passion for chamber music has led her to play in different chamber ensembles with the likes of Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Rocco Filippini, Franco Petracchi, Bruno Canino. She has also recorded Brahms’s complete chamber music (Vicenza, 2002/2004). Laura Gorna is also the mind behind the Notti Trasfigurate Festival, which has taken place at the Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza since 2003, showcasing the masterpieces if chamber music, with open rehersals.
Her latest CDs include performances of Astor Piazzolla’s music (Foné label), and a violin-piano recital for Velut Luna.
With Laura Manzini (piano) and Cecilia Radic (cello) Laura has founded Estrio, one of the best Italian chamber music groups. The trio has to its credit numerous concerts for the main concert seasons in Italy and abroad. Estrio records on the Foné and Decca labels: their last Decca CD with Mendelssohn Trios achieved a great success of critics and audience.
Laura has also appeared in various radio and television broadcasts, among which a documentary for the French satellite channel “Arte”and the Bruch, Prokofiev and Kachaturian Concertos for Radio 3 Rai.
Laura Gorna is violin teacher at the Cremona Conservatory.
She plays the Maggini violin “Giorgio III” 1620.
