The Chats are an Australian punk rock trio from Sunshine Coast, Queensland, consisting of Eamon Sandwith (bass and vocals), Matt Boggis (drums), and Josh Hardy (guitar and backing vocals). The band was formed in 2016 and quickly broke through with their raw, energetic, and humorous “shed rock” – a lo‑fi take on punk inspired by Australian pub culture.
Their breakthrough came in 2017 with the viral hit “Smoko,” followed by “Pub Feed” in 2019, which cemented the band’s reputation for catchy and unpretentious punk songs.
Their debut album High Risk Behaviour (2020) delivered short, intense tracks like “Do What I Want,” “Identity Theft,” and “Dine N Dash,” full of fast riffs, shouty vocals, and raw energy. The album reached No. 5 on the ARIA charts and won Best Independent Punk Album at the 2021 AIR Awards.
In 2022, they followed up with Get Fucked, recorded in just six days. The album features 13 blistering punk tracks with biting social commentary, greater musical precision, and pure Australian humor. It reached No. 2 on the ARIA charts and won the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album.
Listening to The Chats is like experiencing punk in its purest form: fast guitars, pounding drums, and bass‑driven shouts that feel both chaotic and wildly fun. Their music is straightforward, unfiltered, and 100% Australian, and live they deliver the same explosive energy—sweat, sing‑alongs, and rapid‑fire riffs without a trace of pretension.
