Born Vilde Iris Hartveit Kolltveit, Iris Caltwait is a singer, songwriter and producer from Bergen, Norway, raised in a music-loving family with four older siblings who all played instruments. Her earliest memories include dozing off on her father's shoulders at a Metallica concert, only to be woken by the pyrotechnics — and she grew up on a diet of The Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell.
She announced herself in 2019 by winning Årets Urørt, NRK P3's prestigious newcomer of the year award, going on to tour with AURORA in Norway and internationally and perform at several European festivals. Her debut album love and other disasters, released in 2021, received rave reviews.
Her second album, Again, for the First Time (2025), is where she fully came into her own. Working alongside producer Askjell, she weaves through indie-pop landscapes with grace — never boring, bending at the edges of the pop template with subtle electronica, synth onslaughts, and moments of just vocal and guitar. Her writing favours emotional nuance over dramatic flourish, crafting songs that move between grief and dry humour, nostalgia and defiance, collapse and clarity — without rushing to a conclusion
In short: thoughtful, textured, deeply felt pop music from one of Norway's most compelling voices.
