Artist Biography Available in: Sylvia Greenberg (* 1955 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian-Israeli opera singer ( coloratura soprano ) and professor of singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich .
Greenberg's parents belonged to the Jewish minority in Romania. In Romania, she also began studying violoncello. In 1964 she went to Israel with her family and continued her studies there.
Sylvia Greenberg began her singing career only after completing her training as a cellist ; her debut as a singer took place in a concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta . She had her first permanent engagement at the Zurich Opera, where she sang the high coloratura part such as the Zerbinetta in Strauss's Ariadne on Naxos or the "Queen of the Night" in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte . This game quickly became Sylvia Greenberg's trademark and in the following years she guested as a star-flaming queen in Glyndebourne, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, Frankfurt, Vienna and Paris.
