Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri (8 September 1690 – 1764) was an Italian baroque violinist and composer.
Zavateri was born on 8 September 1690 in Bologna , where he studied violin with Giuseppe Torelli , at the time an internationally renowned virtuoso, and composition with Luca Antonio Predieri . The city was an active and productive music center, famous for the quality of singing and string instruments and for the compositional vibrancy of the Bologna School . Later, as he used to among his Italian colleagues at the time, Zavateri made many trips throughout the continent, performing as a violinist in the main European courts (Italian stays in Ferrara , Livorno and Venice are also documented ). He was admitted to the illustrious circle of theAccademia Filarmonica di Bologna in 1717, but only in 1725 it settled permanently again in his hometown. Here will be his patron and pupil Count Cornelio Pepoli Musotti (1708-1777), a Bolognese senator and Venetian noble, patron of writers and musicians. Around the middle of the 1720s it also became part of the prestigious orchestra of the San Petronio musical chapel , in whose records Zavateri often appears as a violinist or violist. His students were various instrumentalists of aristocratic extraction, including Francesco Landini . He died in 1764 in the same Bologna, where he had spent most of his life, having acquired a good artistic reputation over time.
