Julie Bergan (born April 12, 1994) is a pop artist and songwriter from Skien who has worked her way from YouTube covers in her teenage bedroom to over 1.5 billion streams across platforms. She began posting covers at age 16, and in 2012 she broke through with “Supernova” together with Cir.Cuz, which reached number five on the singles chart. After participating in Melodi Grand Prix in 2013, she signed with Warner Music Norway. Her solo breakthrough came with “Arigato” (2016), which topped VG-lista, reached number five in Sweden, and was nominated for Song of the Year at the Norwegian Grammys. The debut album Turn On the Lights (2018) received double platinum certification from IFPI and cemented her position. That same year she reached the top again as vocalist on “Ignite” with Alan Walker, K-391, and Seungri — a global hit with eleven weeks in the VG-lista top three. Since then she has collaborated with Seeb, R3HAB, Benjamin Ingrosso, and David Guetta among others, played Coachella and EDC Japan, and won the Music Publishers’ Prize for Breakthrough of the Year. In February 2025 she released the EP Euronites, where she is credited as a producer for the first time.
Musically, Bergan is inspired by nineties and two-thousands pop, and the Store norske leksikon (Great Norwegian Encyclopedia) compares her to Astrid S and Ina Wroldsen. The instrumentation is primarily programmed — tight, polished, and built for the dance floor. What sets her apart in the Norwegian pop landscape is the combination of control and passion: she writes parts of her material herself and has repeatedly emphasized that she is the one who decides over all aspects of her career. Her role model is Beyoncé, and the inspiration is more than just vocal — it is about owning your project completely. Euronites marks a clearer eurodance direction, with “Kiss Me Better” as an early signal that she would move toward more club-oriented territory.
Live, Bergan is a dancer as much as a vocalist. She trained as a dancer at Skien upper secondary school, and choreography is central to all her performances — she always performs with her own dancers and has collaborated with choreographer Mona Berntsen, known for her work with Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys. The concerts are visually polished, with a drive and physical presence that lifts the pop songs out of the speakers and into the body. She has played the VG-lista concert at City Hall Square seven times, and has shown that she masters everything from festival stages to intimate concerts. This is an artist who never leaves anything to chance.
