Kyper (born Randall S. Kiper in Baton Rouge, LA) enjoyed a brief burst of popularity as a dance pop/rap artist in the early-90s. His 1990 album 'Tic Tac Toe' (alternatively known as 'Tic-Tac-Toe') hit a respectable #79 on Billboard's R&B chart and #82 on the top 200 albums chart. The infectious title track, which mixed together "Owner of a Lonely Heart" from Yes with "Looking for the Perfect Beat" from Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force, was a club anthem.

Kyper's sophomore album, 1992's 'Countdown to the Year 2000', failed to meet expectations. With the hip-hop scene evolving, he soon became known as a one-hit-wonder, with just "Tic Tac Toe" getting any airplay. After being dropped from Atlantic, he independently released several singles and remixes through the 90s as well as the early 00s. Kyper continues to perform, and his more recent work takes in more electronic dance music influences.
