Cheryl Elizabeth Clemons, known as Coko, born June 13, 1970, in the Bronx, New York, is an American R&B and gospel singer. Daughter of gospel singer Lady "Clyde" Tibba Gamble, she began singing in churches at age 3. Influenced by gospel, she honed her powerful voice in Hezekiah Walker’s Love Fellowship Crusade Choir.
In 1990, she became the lead vocalist of SWV (Sisters With Voices), an R&B trio that skyrocketed with their album It’s About Time (1992), selling over three million copies with hits like "Weak", "Right Here", and "I’m So Into You". A cornerstone of 90s R&B, the group released five albums before splitting in 1998, partly due to internal tensions and Coko feeling undervalued. She pursued a solo career with the gospel album Hot Coko (1999), which had mixed success, and continued exploring gospel and R&B with projects like Grateful (2006). Mother of two sons, including rapper Jayye Michaels, she was married to gospel drummer Mike Clemons.
After reuniting with SWV in 2005, she balanced group and solo projects, remaining active in gospel and R&B while cementing her legacy as an iconic 90s voice.
