Artist Biography

Field Division is a Nashville-based folkwave duo whose songs explore the line where dreams and reality blur, where sound waves and stories intertwine. The rich and hauntingly beautiful music created by Evelyn Taylor and Nicholas Frampton maps and defines the slopes and flow of life and where it may take us.

TRU LUV (UK) accounts, “Their blissful music runs high on soulful harmonies and rapturous textures, occupying the gulf between the likes of Feist, Bon Iver, Other Lives and Rumours era Fleetwood Mac.”

The pair draws inspiration from the sprawling prairielands of their home (Des Moines, Iowa) and they credit their Midwestern roots for their dreamy folk sound. “Our music is grounded in the peace that comes from growing up in Iowa, surrounded by miles of fields and sky,” Evelyn says. “It’s a humble sort of beauty which influences our sound in such an expansive way.” Even with the strong influence of home, Field Division reflects the words of author, Henry David Thoreau, “Not till we are completely lost or turned around…, do we begin to find ourselves.”

After years of traveling, growing, and exploring other art forms, Evelyn put roots in Nashville to pursue her music. With nearly a decade of touring band experience, and an education in jazz and classical theory, Nicholas landed in Music City, as well. The two songwriters began their collaboration on Evelyn’s song “Faultlines” and from that point the project took form in their Nashville home studio.

“James Taylor, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills and Nash; the sounds of those groups feel like home to me. It’s without a doubt Evelyn and I draw a lot of inspiration from these groups our parents first introduced us to,” Nicholas says. It may be no surprise, then, that Robin Pecknold and Joshua Tillman are among the modern songwriters Evelyn and Nicholas look up to.

With Evelyn’s lush, ethereal vocals and Nicholas’ polished harmonies, Field Division is sure to lure listeners with their debut EP, “Reverie State.” The duo’s poignant and grand soundscapes transport audiences to the lands and experiences they sing of. From the wanderlust inducing lead single, “Faultlines,” with tribal drums and brooding guitars, to the cinematic and heart-wrenching “Hollow Body Weather,” the duo weaves ambient dream-pop and folk rock into a tapestry of story and enchantment.

For their EP “Reverie State,” releasing October 2014, Field Division teamed up with producers Konrad Snyder (Kopecky Family Band, Night Beds, Neulore) and Benjamin Kaufman (Night Beds).
