François Chaplin follows the training of Bulgarian pianist Ventsislav Yankoff at the National Conservatory of Music of Paris, as well as the accompaniment and chamber music class with Jacqueline Robin, and obtains his First Prize in piano (1st nominated in 1987) and music of bedroom. He then continued his studies as part of the specialized cycle at Jean-Claude Pennetier. He won the Mozart and Robert Casadesus Prizes at the Cleveland International Competition in 1989.
These distinctions mark the starting point of an active and brilliant international career. He plays solo with many orchestras, such as the Lille National Orchestra, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, the Orchester National de Lorraine, the Orchester Colonne, etc. He regularly participates in many festivals such as La Roque-d'Anthéron, the Festival of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, the International Encounters of Nohant (Chopin), the International Festival of Pontlevoy, The Musical Floureries of Reims, Piano in Valois , the Chopin Festival in Paris Bagatelle, the Cervantino International Festival in Mexico, the Yokohama International Festival in Japan, etc.
François Chaplin is also the guest of Wigmore Hall in London, the Champs Elysee Theater in Paris, the Philharmonie of Saint Petersburg, the Art Gallery of Washington (USA), etc.
His recording of the complete piano work of Debussy was unanimously hailed by critics in France (Diapason d'Or, ffff of Télérama) and abroad (BBC Magazine / London Award). It is with the complete Nocturnes of Chopin (double CD Zig-Zag Territories / Harmonia Mundi) in March 2010, (rewarded of a ffff of Télérama) and labelized "Chopin 2010 in France" that François Chaplin celebrated the bicentenary of the birth of the Polish composer.
In his discography, we also discover a disc dedicated to Chopin (The Ballads, Barcarolle), Schumann (Kreisleriana, Scenes of children), Poulenc (the complete work for two pianos and four hands with Alexandre Tharaud), Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2014 (Award BBC Magazine) and a Mozart CD with two concertos (string quartet and piano version).
It is with a recording of works for 4 hands and 2 pianos of Debussy (Decca / Universal) realized with the French pianist Philippe Cassard and a tribute tour (Canada, Mexico, USA, Japan) that François Chaplin celebrated in 2012 the 150th anniversary of the birth of Claude Debussy (1862-1918).
In chamber music, François Chaplin regularly performs with the quartets Talich and Voce, the cellist François Salque, the pianists Philippe Cassard, Marie-Josèphe Jude and the clarinettist Romain Guyot.
