Peter Ratzenbeck (born October 10, 1955 in Graz ) is an Austrian guitarist , composer and music teacher .
At the age of 16 Peter Ratzenbeck received his first guitar from a mail-order company. His first songs and the first guitar chords he learned about his friend Grazer Xao Seffcheque , Peter Ratzenbeck was subsequently up to the present self-taught . His secondary "music school" was the street, where he earned his money as a street musician in subways and on city squares in numerous cities in the Federal Republic of Germany , England , Scotland and Ireland in the 1970s . In 1976, Peter Ratzenbeck had his first public concert in Bregenz as a newcomer, a year later he already played in the main program. At this time also the first record with 16 titles was produced. He was inspired by Leo Kottke on the 12-string guitar , but also by pieces like Angi by Davey Graham and Eleanor Rigby by Werner Lämmerhirt , with whom he also worked together for a while and played the second guitar on stage.
Before Ratzenbeck appeared more and more as a solo artist, he played together with established greats of Austropop , such as STS , Wilfried and Boris Bukowski . In 1980 he closed with the Irish folk musician, singer and songwriter Andy Irvine friendship, with whom he still performs together again and again.
In 2005, Peter Ratzenbeck celebrated a threefold anniversary: his 50th birthday, the 30-year stage anniversary and his 20th recording. In August of this year Peter recorded his CD Resonances on the British Isle in Carlisle , Cumbria , with the English guitarist and songwriter Michael Chapman , where guest musicians included Andy Irvine, Dougie MacLean and Michael Chapman, the latter also being a producer co-responsible for the CD.
In 2007 Ratzenbeck was invited by Reinhard Mey to play on his CD Bunter Hund . He took on different parts of the guitar part.
If Peter Ratzenbeck is not on tour at the moment , where he only plays his own compositions apart from a few pieces of other provenance, he retires to his remote place of residence in the northern Waldviertel and writes about new compositions. In the spring of 2013 Ratzenbeck said in an interview, "I'm just the antenna, set to receive. This one starts something or not, you can not force it. It can happen that a composition also needs a year. "
His music itself is not unique. Musically his focus is on Irish music , but he is also familiar with New Age , folk , blues as well as Baroque and lute music . He plays about 60 to 70 concerts a year and holds guitar workshops in between.
