Quarteto Novo is a group formed in São Paulo in 1966, which released a revolutionary instrumental album that launched the careers of some of the group members.
First named Trio Novo, the band consisted of Theo de Barros (bass and guitar), Heraldo do Monte (viola and guitar) and Airto Moreira (percussion). The group was created to accompany the singer / singer-songwriter Geraldo Vandré in concert and during recordings. With the arrival of flutist Hermeto Pascoal, the group was renamed Quarteto Novo. In 1967, the band recorded their only self-titled album which had a considerable influence on jazz and popular music.
