Asuka Matsumoto has a very unique performing style which inspires jazz grooves within classical music. Her music is never set in a frame of classical music, it goes beyond music genres. Her music reminds the listeners of new impressions and sensations.
Asuka Matsumoto was influenced by her mother who had studied singing, and her older sister who was learning to play piano before her. She started piano at the age of three; won a number of competitions as a child, appeared on television at eight and eventually visited Britain at the invitation of Eaton College.
This led her to play together with the British orchestra at fourteen. She started studying Jazz at eighteen leaving classical piano behind to study a wide range of music. She did various things for the next five years including support of different genres, writing lyrics, composing, Jazz arrangements for classical musicians and so on. At the age of twenty three, she was convinced of her involvement with classical music and went back to her starting point, classical piano.
