Worldwide Groove Corporation are definitely against the grain in the city they call home. Being known for their electronic flair, whether it be programmed pop or downtempo chill, WGC are anything but country when left to their own creative inspiration. This blessing/curse in the midst of Nashville, TN has given them a niche that keeps them working on a variety of music projects for people from around the world. Between the work of Kurt and Ellen, their music has been used in films, on national TV ad campaigns, in major network TV shows, and discussed at international arts festivals. Their string arrangements have been featured on records for artists such as Third Day and Plumb, and they are known for their talent of reinvention which is evident in their classic country remixes and their treatment of old jazz standards on their 2007 record "Fever: Chillodesiac Lounge, vol. 1". From this record, their instrumental track "Smoke & Mirrors" topped the chart on the Sirius XM chill station for two months, and several tracks have appeared on compilations around the world. Fifteen DJs in 10 different countries contributed their amazing talents to the WGC remix releases in 2009, giving them a tremendous global connection. As artists, in July 2014 WGC began the "Year of the Groove" with the announcement that they will put out one new release a month for at least a year. These releases will be singles and small EPs, and they will be expanding their musical umbrella, ranging from purely fun electro pop to deeper more emotionally complex downtempo leanings. Although the emotional range is broad, the core of their tracks, the rich textures, sultry grooves and catchy beats remain the staple of their sound. --------- Worldwide Groove Corporation are Kurt Goebel and Ellen Tift, a music production team specializing in programmed pop music, remixes, and string arranging. After working together for a decade as a production team for hire, in 2007 they released their first independent project of jazz standards reinvented into downtempo chillout tracks, entitled Chillodesiac Lounge vol. 1: FEVER. This project embodies the reflection of their musical personas, ranging from dark and beautiful to fun and quirky. It also features vocals from guest performers like Melinda Doolittle and Fleming McWilliams of Fleming & John. In 2009, WGC signed a deal with Liaison Music Group based out of L.A., and rereleased this project under the name "The Midnight Sessions" including the new track "When I Fall in Love" and two remixes by DJs in the UK and Switzerland. http://www.worldwidegroovecorp.com http://www.chillodesiaclounge.com Chillodesiac Lounge vol. 1: FEVER - Their first independent release. Exquisitely fresh renderings of jazz standards, reinvented in a downtempo style. When one thinks of what goes on in the Nashville music scene, rarely does the concept of vibey mid-tempo chillout music come to mind. But that is exactly what Ellen Tift and Kurt Goebel [aka: Worldwide Groove Corporation] are up to on their nights and weekends. Some might say they would be misplaced in the Music City, but this music production team have recently emerged as one of the few downtempo duos in town. Both members have hired out their skills at music production, programming, and arranging to others in the industry for years, but they have finally taken initiative to do something for themselves. Worldwide Groove Corporation's first independent musical endeavor is taking the shape of a downtempo chillout project featuring ageless jazz standards completely reinvented into a collection of modern electrolounge styles. This project combines sultry drum grooves, ambient textures, and electronica flavors with a remix approach to the smooth vocal performances. The title track "Tangerine" showcases the wonderfully quirky voice of former Universal Records artist Fleming McWilliams of Fleming & John over a pseudo bossa rhythm and fun vintage organ samples. Other songs like "The Man I Love" and "My Funny Valentine" take on a more sexy mid-tempo groove, giving the listener the feeling that they're either sipping a martini after hours in a vibey NY club, or are about to get lucky. One of the more noteworthy cuts on this project is the song Fever, which appears twice. The first version is a sexy chilled track sung by Missi Hale, complete with a French rap on one of the verses to really put it over the top. But later on the project, Worldwide Groove Corporation remix this song into a full on dance mix, only this time you hear "I've got a fever" and later "and the only prescription is more cowbell," playing on the famous SNL sketch with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. The track even cops several of the hooks from the Blue Oyster Cult song which was featured in the sketch, and of course, lots of cowbell. Though the concept is funny, the track does work well. When Worldwide Groove Corporation are not creating these hypnotic grooves, they are kept busy with their music production work, specializing in pop music production, artist development, remixes, and string arranging. Check out their website, www.worldwidegroovecorp.com, for snippets of recent projects, and to keep up to date on the progress of their own "Chillodesiac Lounge vol. 1: FEVER."
