Wolfgang Ziegler (born October 8, 1943 in Rostock) is a German rock, pop and Schlager singer and composer. He became known beyond the borders of the GDR in 1987 with the title Verdammt!

Wolfgang Ziegler passed his Abitur in the GDR and completed an apprenticeship as an engine builder from 1963 to 1965. He was then employed as a consultant for cultural tasks until 1970.

He was already making music in the 1960s and took piano lessons as a student. The Beat Quartet, to which he belonged, became the Baltics, popular in the north of the GDR, in 1964. Here he played together with Peter Zimmermann (e-bass), Eckhard Woytowicz (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet, guitar), Knud Benedict (mellotron, guitar) and H.-Joachim Seering (drums). In 1966 he co-wrote the film music for the DEFA film Die Reise nach Sundevit by Heiner Carow.

From 1970 to 1973, Wolfgang Ziegler studied singing at the Studio for Entertainment Arts in East Berlin and composition at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. In 1972 he founded the group WIR with Jens Gerlach, with whom he performed for 14 years.

Wolfgang Ziegler has been performing solo since 1986. His most successful title was Damned! (1987). A music video was released for this in the GDR. In 1991 he reached the German single charts (75th place) for the only time so far with the title Hass mich, Wenn Du kann.

Ziegler lives in Berlin-Kaulsdorf and is married. He has four children. One son is the producer Martin de Vries. He comes from the marriage with the Wir singer Doris Martin (today Doris de Vries). His daughter Sabrina Ziegler was a founding member of the girl band Samajona in the early 2000s.
