H-Block 101 formed in 1995 and played their final show on New Years Eve 2005/06. In '95, after a couple of years looking for members, Karl Mautner found some other guys to play in a band inspired by '77 punk. H-Block weren't afraid to wear their influences on their sleeve: sounding a lot like The Clash or Stiff Little Fingers, they blasted out terrific, high-energy pogo punk, all with a good dose of politics. They released six EP's, three albums and appeared on numerous compilations. Along with the recent break up of long-time Melbourne punk rockers Mach Pelican, H-Block 101's departure from the Melbourne all-ages scene has resulted in a changing of the guard, with younger bands stepping up to fill the void left by such amazing bands.
