Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
Synonymous with twisted bass lines and gut wrenching bass, UK drum n bass producer Charlie Bierman has been unleashing his unique take on DnB onto an unsuspecting public since 2001. Starting out on A-Sides’ Eastside label, Break has since been heavily involved with some of the scenes most respected labels including Ram, Metalheadz, Shogun, Exit, Critical, Soul:R, Quarantine, DNAudio, Subtitles and Digital Soundboy.
As a DJ Break maintains a consistent touring schedule that sees him playing across the globe on a weekly basis on the stages of the world’s biggest drum & bass nights; from Fabric, Detonate, Bedlam, Warning, Turbulence, Metalheadz and Hospitality in the UK to the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the breadth of Europe, playing headline shows or back to back sets with the likes of Die, Goldie and Dillinja.
Launching his own label, Symmetry Recordings in 2006, Break honed and polished his sound with each single and released his fist album, also entitled ‘Symmetry’ in 2008. Featuring forays into ambient, dubstep, funk, hip hop, house and soul amongst an arsenal of sure-fire drum & bass, ‘Symmetry’ earned Break an army of new fans from outside the d&b world with tracks picked up by the likes of techno legends Laurent Garnier and Josh Wink. His second LP, ‘Resistance’, featured collaborations with No U-Turn mastermind Nico, Bristol’s DJ Die, super-duo Calyx & Teebee, DNAudio cohorts Silent Witness and Survival, Shogun Audio’s SpectraSoul and vocalists Kyo and SP:MC, the album offered a glorious journey through the spectrum of Break’s styles and influences and a clear indication of where his talents will lead him next.In 2011 he released 12”s on his label Symmetry which featured new artists he was feeling, in particular Emperor, Xtrah & Need for Mirrors. Tracks such as ‘Framework’ ‘Something new’ ‘Music is better’ ‘Steam Train’ further pushed Break’s Symmetry Recordings as one of the scene’s best labels. 2014 saw Break’s ‘They’re wrong’ remixed by the legendary Calibre, his stunning version was a summer anthem backed with ‘New Design’ featuring DLR. Also in 2014 and into 2015, Break’s ‘Duck for cover’ was yet another massive tune on Symmetry, while he’s remixed for Ram Records and his version of Jaguar Skills & Chords ‘Lust’ destroyed venues around the world. With recent releases on Sigma’s ‘Life Recordings’ and more recently ‘Temptations’ on Symmetry, we’re all set for another huge year for Break as he continues to cement his recognition as being the drum & bass scene’s very best.
