The Sharp were a 3-piece pop/rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The band formed in 1991 with Charlie Rooke on guitar, Allan Catlin on double bass and Piet Collins on drums. All three shared vocal duties with Charlie and Allan sharing fairly evenly and Piet singing the occasional song. The Sharp are best known for their string of singles including 'Train of Thought', 'Scratch My Back' and 'Talking Sly' as well as their black skivvies and energetic live show including Allan balancing on his double bass while playing. After releasing numerous EPs the band finally released their debut album "This Is the Sharp" in 1993 to much Australian media attention. A tour of Europe followed in 1994, the band gaining popularity in Germany. "Sonic Tripod", the band's second album, was released on 22 August 1994. Singles included 'Honest & Sober', 'Alone Like Me' and 'Spider'. The band took a break in 1995 after which Piet left the band. He was replaced by Adam May but the band announced their breakup soon afterward. The band celebrated with a final tour from 29 August to 23 October. The final show was played at the Hallam Hotel in Melbourne on 22 October 1995. An album of unreleased material was released at the same time as the break up "Skeletons in the Closet".
