Hervé Sellin (* 1957 in Paris ) is a French jazz pianist.

Sellin began with trumpet (his father Pierre was a classical trumpeter, who introduced him early jazz), switched to trumpet and finally the piano. He studied as a student of Aldo Ciccolini at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), where he graduated in 1980 with prices in chamber music and piano. In the 1980s he played with jazz musicians such as Guy Lafitte , Art Farmer , Eddie Lockjaw Davis , Sweets Edison , Chet Baker , Dizzy Gillespie , Joe Newman , Slide Hampton , Gérard Badini , Clifford Jordan and James Moody . In 1984 he was companion of Johnny Griffin , in whose European Quartet, he played 15 years and was frequently from 1990 Dee Dee Bridgewater with whom he recorded on tour in 1986 in live concert. In 1989 he founded his own septet (with ao Sylvain Beuf ), the 1991 Branford Marsalis (Columbia / Sony "Hervé Sellin Sextet feat. Branford Marsalis") and 1991 with Johnny Griffin recorded ("Live at Jazz Valley"). Since 1994 he is professor at the CNSM (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique) in Paris.

1995 to 2000 he toured with drummer and composer Bertrand Renaudin and took with him three albums. In 1997 he recorded the album "Acoustic MOP" with his trio ( Gilles Naturel on bass, Benjamin Henocq on drums). In 2001 he took on the Jazz Festival of Bayonne, the live solo album Thèmes et Variations to 2002, he led on the Marciac Jazz Festival on a music composed by him Suite for Tentet cast for the 25th anniversary of the festival. Since 2002, he has toured with Richard Galliano "Piazzolla forever" and took up with him. In 2003 he was of Wynton Marsalis invited at Lincoln Center in New York City Music for a Tentett to write. In 2008 he released the album Marciac New York Express with his Tentet (Crystal Records / Harmonia Mundi), which won the award for best album of the year by the French Jazz Academy.

In 1990 he received the Prix Django Reinhardt .
