Cécile Verny (* 1969 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast) is a German-French jazz singer and front woman of African origin Cécile Verny Quartet.
Cécile Verny grew up as a child in the Ivory Coast and moved to France in 1981 with twelve years. At 17, she gained her first stage experience as a singer. A year later she founded with three musicians in 1987 in Strasbourg, the bearing her name jazz quartet. In 1989 she moved to Freiburg im Breisgau, in the suburb Umkirch she still lives today. She has two children (* 1997 and * 1999).
Cécile Verny writes her lyrics herself and sings this mainly in French and English, but also in German and in their native language.
Cécile Verny and her band have won many awards and she won with her quartet, inter alia, the 2006 Prize of the German Record Critics' Award for The Bitter and The Sweet as "artistically outstanding new release" in jazz.
