Julya Lo’ko is of Moluccan-Indonesian origin (Moluccan father, Indonesian mother). She knows from her 7th birthday she wants to be a singer. From her 14th she starts singing.

Together with her brother Eddy in 1974 she founded the band “Cheyenne”, where they are largely responsible for the compositions and arrangements. The funk / jazz / rock band Cheyenne was very successful on the stage. In 1975 the singles “Seperate love”, “Get Running”, “Everytime I see you” and “Still the Kinda Man” all the tip-parade get. Altough the had succes there was no breaktrough. The band split in 1982.

Besides Cheyenne Julya also works on other projects. She takes a duet with Tony Sherman “Too Big For Words”, what became a top-40 hit in 1976 in the Netherlands. Under the name “Suara Maluku Band” Julya makes the album “Ambon Manis” with Neppy Noya, Daniel Sahuleka, Chris Latul and Ais Lawalata. This record contains modern adaptations of traditional Moluccan songs. The Album was released in 1980

Between 1983 and 1985 Julya sings with Hans Vermeulen Rainbow Train. This gave her much experience as a background singer and she works for numerous Dutch and foreign artists. As a background singer she appears on television, radio and various venues.

In 1985 together with Astrid Seriese and Mathilde Santing Julya wins the Belgian Knokke festival. Julya was also second place for Personality Award. In the same year she is the leads inger in the band Labyrinth of Jasper van’t Hof and Cesar Zuiderwijk. The song “Help me Out” is listed on the Hot 100. In 1985, she sang on television and live with Billy Preston. She gets the Silver Harp from Stichting Conamus.
