DumDum Boys started out as the punk band Wannskrækk in Trondheim in 1979, with guitarist Kjartan Kristiansen and vocalist Prepple Houmb at the core. In 1985 they took the name DumDum Boys — after an Iggy Pop song — changed their style, and began singing in standard Norwegian rather than the Trondheim dialect. The debut Blodig Alvor arrived in 1988, and with the follow-up Splitter Pine the year after, they were Norway’s most popular rock band. Three Spellemann Awards for three albums — a feat no one else has matched. Since then they have delivered over ten studio albums and cemented their place as one of the “big four” of Norwegian rock, alongside Raga Rockers, Jokke & Valentinerne and deLillos.
The music is straightforward, riff-based rock rooted in punk and new wave, but it is Kristiansen’s lyrics that elevate it into something more. Poetic, grounded in everyday life and often surprisingly beautiful, they give the songs a depth that has burned tracks like “Splitter Pine”, “Slave” and “Metallic Hvit” into the Norwegian collective consciousness.
Live, DumDum Boys are legendary. The label “Norway’s foremost live band” has followed them since the beginning, and after over four decades on the road they still possess an energy and joy of playing that turns every concert into a celebration. In November 2026 they mark 40 years with the arena show XL at Oslo Spektrum — proof that DumDum Boys are still growing.
